MIGUNDE PRIMARY SCHOOL, NYAOGA

This is the new building for the local primary school. The community raised funds for this new building with the help of several grants and nonprofits, and Give Us Wings supplied the plans. However, it only has 4 classrooms and houses the 5th-8th graders.
This is building which holds the 1st-4th grade classrooms. The walls are made of branches and mud. The brick building behind this one is much more stable but the tin roof was in such disrepair that it fell apart and they need a new one before the students can move into that building..
This is the 2nd grade classroom. The mud walls are falling apart and the roof leaks. Will and I have been coming to teach English at the school a couple times. He usually takes the 8th graders and I work with the 7th graders. I had the students write a composition about their favorite holiday and how they celebrate, and then draw a corresponding picture. Some excerpts:

"Chrismas day I went to our big city in nairobi we visit many people in the city of nairobi. one day I went to our chrismas day I show many things like cat, elephent, lion and faras. In that day I visit all the people in nairobi."

"It was one chilly morning when It was a christmas day. I was very happy as happy as a king because it was the day when our Lord Jesus was borny. That day I went to Lake Victoria. The Lake was clean that you could see the everything that was inside. We also celebrated many kinds of food such as chicken and rice."

"It was Holyday of Jamhuri day. We were being celebrating the Oneko's life. And we were being dance at night and it was Christmas day. When we where gone to the first day, of the time I was gone to the church. We where talk about the God. It was this. Sir I represent the candidate who here by voise to lern number six. Meaning in any devoisonal exercise I will show the reverent that be feets be presents of God. Amen."

"A Party: Mwalegha celebrating 13th birthday on 10 December. Please come! R.S.V.P. Mwalegha."

These are some girls who were hanging around the school after hours when I came to take pictures.
